Wallie Askew Memorial Workskills Competition

The aim of the competitions is to introduce apprentices to IRHACE and encourage their interaction with the organisation by providing an environment for them to meet members and attend the annual HVAC&R Trade Exhibition & Industry Conference. This competition is now in its 17th year.

Wallie Askew served as President of NZIRACE from 1974 -1982 and was awarded Life Membership for his achievements during this service. The Wallie Askew Memorial Workskills Competition was established by IRHACE in 1999 on the tenth anniversary of the tragic deaths of Wallie and his wife Betty in a traffic accident. Wallie was a strong supporter of the HVAC&R industry, the Institute, and apprentice training.

“I did not set out to lead the Institute eight years ago with any thought of reward or personal aggrandisement. I saw that leadership was required. I felt I might have something to offer.”

Wallie Askew, p.7 Thermonews, April/May 1982
